Jacob was the son of Martha Henderson and William Cochran who were both born in Pennsylvania. Martha's parents were Nancy Ann Clendenning and William Henderson.

Jacob's father and grandfather were the only two Cochrans on the census in 1830 along with his great grandparents who also migrated into Ohio.

Jacob served in the Ohio Infantry and received his pension while
married to his second wife as indicated

First he married Mariah White, who was probably the daughter of
Joseph White living near them in Guernsey Ohio.

Searched for Gold in Cal and returned to his family, wife and six
daughters, living next to his brother Alexander Cochran.
